Arc Institute’s AI model, Evo, could represent a major leap for synthetic biology

Arc Institute recently published Evo, an AI model that could represent a major leap for synthetic biology and help scientists understand the functions of various DNA and RNA sequences.  Evo is trained on billions of lines of genetic sequences and can deduce how bacterial and viral genomes operate.  It can use that information to design new proteins and even whole microbial genomes that can help scientists accurately predict the effects of gene mutations and mitigate disease.  Capable of both predicting the effects of genetic changes and generating new genetic sequences based on its understanding of biological patterns, Evo can help scientists probe evolution, investigate diseases, develop new treatments, and potentially answer a host of other biomedical questions.

SeismicAI is improving the speed and accuracy of earthquake detection

SeismicAI leverages advanced AI to deliver faster, more accurate earthquake early warnings compared to traditional detection systems.  By integrating its AI-driven platform with existing seismic sensor networks, SeismicAI analyzes data in real time and continuously monitors and evaluates patterns, enabling it to predict an earthquake’s location, magnitude, and potential impact within seconds and before destructive seismic waves hit—providing a critical lead time for people to take cover and for automated systems to protect infrastructure.  Unlike conventional methods, SeismicAI’s AI algorithms adapt and improve, enabling more precise alerts and distinguishing true seismic events from background vibrations, which significantly reduces unnecessary and costly false alarms.  The AI-driven system can also anticipate the impact of offshore quakes on nearby cities and, if necessary, initiate preventative actions, like reducing pipeline pressure and cutting electricity, to minimize fire and environmental risks.

Atomic Canyon’s AI model, Neutron, is driving efficiencies in the nuclear power industry

Demand for nuclear power is growing worldwide, driven in part by the growth of data centers and the electrification of industry and transportation.  However, the rigorous regulatory environment in the nuclear power industry presents major challenges to maintaining compliance and achieving the level of productivity needed to meet this increased demand.  Neutron, Atomic Canyon’s AI-powered search solution, is engineered to meet the unique data management needs of the nuclear energy sector.  Designed for speed and precision, Neutron interprets complex nuclear terminology, making data retrieval faster, smarter, and more reliable.  Neutron is powered by an AI model, developed in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, that achieves unprecedented accuracy in nuclear-specific searches, delivering results that are 40 percent more accurate and twice as efficient as existing solutions.  By enabling instant, accurate access to critical documentation across billions of pages of technical documentation, Neutron generates results within seconds rather than hours and raises the bar on power plant safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.  In November, Pacific Gas and Electric Company became the first major commercial deployer of Neutron at its Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
