Mirai uses AI to personalize breast cancer risk prediction

Developed by the MIT Jameel Clinic, Mirai is an AI model that predicts a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer up to five years in advance from a single mammogram. Using deep learning, Mirai analyzes imaging features and clinical data to generate a personalized risk score, helping clinicians tailor screening and prevention plans. The model has been trained and validated on more than two million mammograms from hospitals across 22 countries, ensuring accuracy and equity across diverse populations. By quickly identifying high-risk patients, Mirai enables earlier interventions while reducing unnecessary procedures for low-risk individuals.
